Lonesome Dove Wildlife Management Ranch
|

The ranch has 104 acres of prime hunting. There are Dove, Whitetail Deer and Hogs. All hunting regulations will
apply. A canyon runs the middle of the ranch, giving deer and other wildlife a place to drink and bed down. There are
also several springs that run all year long and caves to explore.
We have rattlesnakes and copperheads, so everyone must be on the lookout for them at all times and we also have
snake and varmint hunts all year long.
North 40 Blind One (1): There are two blinds in this area. Both are in the woods behind the pasture. One blind is a
man made blind and is somewhat weather tight. Shooting range is 75 yards. High powered rifle or shotgun can be
used at this blind. The ground blind is set up for bow or shotgun. The shooting lane has woods on both sides and is
long and narrow. There is a mechanical feeder at this location and deer access the area from all four sides. This is
near the canyon edge of the property and has very thick foliage in the area that surrounds it. There is a road near this
blind accessible from the pasture but is not an all weather road.
Coyote Blind Three (3): This blind is at the far North end of the property. Named after the coyotes seen in the area.
There is a ground blind or brush blind at this location and a ground feeder. This is an open field and wooded area.
Range is 75 yards. The fence line goes directly into the canyon area of the property. Deer travel the fence line as well
as the canyon. There are several areas along the fence line that can be bow hunted on the trails. Deer are seen
crossing the fence as well as coming out of the woods into the field to feed. There are several places along the fence
line that can be bow hunted, as well as the woods overlooking the field. Bring your camo clothing and we will help you
pick a good spot to hunt from.
Moran blind, (4) This elevated blind consists of natural cover and sheet metal. The area is fully wooded and
overlooks game trails out of the canyon. It has a ground feeder which is kept filled with corn and other supplements.
Shooting range is less then 30 yards. This is an excellent bow hunting blind and during gun season, a shotgun or high
powered rifle may be used. The only access to this blind is by walking, as there are no roads of any kind and any game
that is shot will have to be hand carried back up the hill. There is a lot of brush, trees, rocks and numerous trails the
deer follow. The canyon makes a turn near this blind and the deer have several active trails. There is a several large
bucks in this area I will show you the trails if you would like to hunt that way instead of the blinds. Two large bucks and
several smaller ones have been seen in this area of the ranch, mostly in the early mornings and late evenings The
does and other wildlife uses this feeding area. We hope to be installing a elevated platform blind and it will be set up
for bow as well as rifle or shotgun hunting sometime in 2007. We will be adding a new feeding system to this area.
Canyon blind is at the top of the canyon looking down into it. This is another good hunting area. Several big bucks
have been sighted there. Canyon feeder is at the base of the canyon. You have to walk, because no vehicles of any
kind are allowed in this area. Any animal you shoot will be hand carried back up the canyon path
East Tank Blind Five (5): This location is in the woods near a tank on far side of the ranch. It's mainly open with the
feeder located in a wooded area. Distance to the feeder is one hundred (100) yards. This is a mechanical feeder and
is kept filled with corn and other grains all year. The blind is man-made and semi weather tight. There is also an
elevated platform blind or tree stand with thirty (30) yards of the feeder for bow hunting. Only one hunter may hunt
either rifle or bow at a time. This area is recommended for a high power rifle although a shotgun may be used due to
the proximity of the tank that the stand overlooks.
East Blind Six (6) Blind: At the end of the road due North of the entrance to the east side there is a semi weather tight
box blind and mechanical feeder near the wooded area of the property. This area is near the canyon and has lots of
activity in and around it. The area can be hunted using bow or gun with lots of cover available to hide in. The blind is
less than 100 yard shooting range. There is a 2-man tree blind that we just added this year. The road leading to this
area is an unimproved ranch road and during wet conditions is four wheel drive only. It is walking distance from the
main gate or oil tanks. Distance is less than 1/4 mile. 2006, opening weekend spike killed from this area and numerous
doe seen in this area. There is a mountain lion that visits on this side of the canyon during the winter.
East Blind Seven (7). Located on the left as you come through the south gate. There is a tree blind and a ground blind
for hunting.
South Blind Eight (8), also known as Vet blind. This blind is directly south of the ranch house on the south side of the
canyon. There is a tree stand and feeder at this location. We have seen several big bucks at this feeder.
OUR OLD RANCH HOUSE
We have the old ranch house that hunters may stay in over night for an additional price with meals. In the
future, we will also have a two story bunkhouse that hunters may stay in. We have an area that you may park
your camper or trailer but no hookups at this time, but there are several RV Parks within 10 miles of the ranch.
Cisco Lake, has camping, swimming and fishing. In Cisco and Eastland, there are antique stores and
museums.
The ranch house sleeps 6-7 people and all meals and bedding are included in the weekend package. There is
a kitchen and bath, Dishnetwork, but NO maid service. The ranch house will be clean and beds ready for you
when you arrive and we hope you will pick up after yourself during your stay. We do all the cooking but you
are welcome to cook your own meals. Weather permitting, we do most of the cooking outside and eat around
the fire pit.
In the near future, we will be adding more feeders and blinds and RV hook ups. We only allow 5 to 6 hunters at a time
to insure the safety of everyone that is hunting. The hunters will be guided to the blind they have chosen and must
stay in that blind until the appointed time to be picked up unless the hunter has been given permission to walk the
area in which he is hunting.
During off season, we have weekends opened for families to bring the kids out to enjoy the quiet country life full of
nature walks, taking pictures of the wildlife and just sit back to relax. There are quite a few Antique shops, Museums
within a 45 mile radius.
We hope you will come join us for your hunting experience or family down time.

The last 2 photos were taken in 2008. The
Wildview camera will not hold the correct
date. This buck will use his tongue to get
the corn to come out.
